A possible moonshine cave has been discovered under the grandstands of a legendary NASCAR track in North Carolina.
The discovery was made during a routine cleaning and inspection at North Wilkesboro Speedway last week, track officials shared Tuesday. Operations staff members noticed cracks in the original concrete in Section N, revealing an approximately 700-square-foot open area underneath.
“We’d often hear stories of how an old moonshine still was operated here on the property under the grandstands,” said Steve Swift, senior vice president of operations and development at Speedway Motorsports.

Re: Moonshine Cave Found Under Race Track
Didn't NASCAR begin with moonshiners? Or did I watch too much Dukes of Hazzard when I was a kid?

Absolutely. They souped up their cars to outrun anybody who might interfere.
NASCAR legend Junior Johnson was a well-known moonshiner in Wilkes County

In the UK distilling has been controlled for centuries, that didn't stop illegal distilling taking place in remote bits of Scotland.
The oldest illegal distillery on Islay, was Laphroiag.
For a long time they kidded the authorities on that they were making medicine, because it really does smell medicinal, due to all the iodine in it.
The barrel sheds are open to the sea.
That's good stuff.
I've had American corn whiskey and wheat whiskey, don't ask me which ones because I've forgotten.
There was a place in Hull which closed during the pandemic and didn't reopen.
They had an amazing selection of foreign spirits.
But a single malt Scotch Islay whisky, is rather good.
If you ever get the chance, and if you're into Scotch whisky, try Bowmore as an introduction. Then Laphroiag, Ardbeg or Lagavulin if you want to try something a bit more medicinal in flavour.
