Biden lets drugs cross the border
Re: Biden lets drugs cross the border
Ending prohibition doesn't mean more drugs it means no drug gangs.
It means addiction is treated as a sickness rather than a crime.
It means less shoplifting, less burglaries, less distractions for the Police so they can focus on more serious crimes.
It means a safer society.
Addicts being helped off drugs.
Fewer drug deaths in the long term.

Alcohol abuse kills, would you reintroduce prohibition of alcohol?
Tobacco kills, would you ban tobacco?
In both cases, a ban would not work, and only benefit organised crime.

IMHO, that's a treatment and education, not a prohibition issue. What I don't see is whether or not crime rates went down. I'd bet that if legalization ended drug-related crime, the US would be in favor.pete wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 5:35 pmDrug deaths rose in Portugal.Shred wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 5:32 pmEnding prohibition doesn't mean more drugs it means no drug gangs.

Of course, there's an easier way to solve the problem. Catch someone with fentanyl on their person, shoot them. On the spot. In the head. Problem solved.

Another Trump whatabouism FAILShred wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 8:37 amEx President Trump didn't stop anything.
And let's not forget, George Floyd obtained fentanyl whilst dodgy Donald was in charge.
Prohibition of drugs doesn't work, it simply results in black markets and gangs for the same reason prohibition of alcohol resulted in black markets and gangs.
Legalisation of alcohol didn't stop temperance and legalisation of drugs doesn't result in everyone being on drugs, but it does break the link with gangs, stops a lot of petty crimes including shoplifting.
Crime rates and prison populations fall.
Everyone is safer without prohibition.

Trump had no say in the legislation in question, but rather offered an opinion against it because it provided 50 times more funding to the defense of Ukraine than to the defense of the United States. It was clear that most members of Congress who did have a vote, and voted against the legislation, shared Trump's opinion long before he gave it.

So Trump opining against the border bill didn't influence his toadies in Congress?psk836 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 1:52 pmUtter BS.stuporstitionist wrote: ↑Sun Apr 28, 2024 9:54 amUtter BS. Trump killed the strongest border bill in decades to keep the status quo.

The US defense budget is north of $900B. Are you trying to suggest that the $61B for Ukraine is 50 times the $900B? Sorry, that math doesn't work. If you meant 50 times more than was spent on immigration, consider the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) budget for 2024 is just shy of $20B, so 50x still doesn't work.
And of that $61B, only $13.8B is going directly to Ukraine. The rest is being spent in the US, with US arms manufacturers.
Now, which members of Congress didn't have a vote?
